Sports/Remedial Massage & Injury Therapy

Sports massage can be a little misleading as a title, as it is not only for sports people by any means. You may also hear it described as 'Soft Tissue Therapy' or 'Remedial Massage'. It is highly beneficial for anyone, injured or not. It can actually help prevent injuries by keeping the body at it's optimum condition. It is also an effective treatment for many injuries or mobility issues. It involves working deep into the tissues of the body, is great for reducing tension and muscle soreness, increasing blood flow and oxygen to the tissues and returning muscles and tendons to their normal functional length. It also increases lymphatic flow, aiding removal of waste products and toxins from the body.

For these reasons, it has been shown to be beneficial for sportsmen and women at all stages of training and competition as it aids proper and faster recovery of the tissues, maintains or increases flexibility and range of movement, re-habilitates damaged tissues and helps prevent further injury.

Muscle tension can be caused by anything that puts stress on the body - bad posture, mental stress, carrying heavy shopping bags, long driving hours, working in the garden, sport...

There are many reasons clients come for sports massage. Here are some of the most common problems:

  • Neck and back pain/tightness

  • Muscles soreness

  • Recurring headaches and migraines

  • Recovering from injury

  • Sciatica

  • Restricted movement

  • Tight hamstrings

  • Improving flexibility

  • Optimising sports performance

We don't just do Sports Massage. Sometimes a more varied approach is needed, so we may suggest a different type of therapy - dry needling for example or Deep Oscillation therapy. We also offer post treatment advice for relevant stretches and exercises to get you back to your best after an injury.

Rock Taping

Rock taping is something we sometimes use allongside injury therapy. You may have seen athletes and sportsmen/women wearing funky, multi-coloured tape? Rocktape is a special kind of tape known as kinesiology tape. It is used by practitioners throughout the world to aid treatment of injuries and improve sports performance. When applied properly, Rocktape can help athletes improve form and decrease fatigue through better blood flow.

Rocktape is effective for the treatment of a wide variety of problems, not just sports injuries.

  • Achilles tendonitis

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • ACL/MCL issues

  • Rotator cuff

  • Groin and hamstring pulls

  • Lower back issues

  • Shin splints

  • Tennis and golf elbow

  • Pain associated with pregnancy

  • Postural correction

If we think it may be beneficial to your treatment, we may suggest it.
